Stages to the Process

Step 1

Registration of Learners
To participate in TECSkills, your employer must register you with the ECITB through an Approved TECSkills Centre. Before registering as a learner for TECSkills based learning, you will be allocated an Instructor / TECSkills Coach. Your Initial Skills Profile and Individual Training Plan will then be set in place.

Step 2

Measurement of Attainment
Depending on whether you are an apprentice, a new entrant or are part of the existing workforce, will determine which training route you take.

If you are an apprentice (NASEC or Route One Centre Starter) you will be required to complete the Off-the-Job Training units. These are designed to reflect the requirement of the selected ECITB N/SVQ and support your initial trade development in a centre-based environment.

After this is completed you will move on to complete the On-the-Job Training and Performance units. This will facilitate the gathering of evidence that may contribute to the mandatory and optional units of the N/SVQ. On-the-Job Training Performance units are also available for existing craftsperson skill enhancement and new entrants. A TECSkills Coach will be allocated to support and assist you through this stage in your training and they will be on hand to certify you once the Operational Performance Standard is achieved.

Step 3

N/SVQ Assessment and Verification
This process is independent of the TECSkills process. The evidence accrued during the training process may be offered to the N/SVQ Assessor for evaluation and possible contribution to the N/SVQ.

Step 4

TECSkills Certification
The ECITB will certify your TECSkills On-the-Job Performance units after the requirements have been met and validated by the TECSkills Coach. This will provide recognition of your ability and the skills acquired. Material collated as a result of TECSkills training may also contribute towards the award of relevant N/SVQs.
